Make your own severed arm out of expanding foam Things You Will Need
1) An Arm 2) Liquid Latex 5) Hair dryer 7)
Grease 10) MDF Step 1 Wash your arm and hand then shave all hair OFF (trust me you must do this Don't leave any hair)
Step 2 Put some old news paper on the floor Pour the liquid latex in to a shallow container Plug in the hair dryer
Step 3 Ok its time to start painting your
arm and hand with the liquid latex Take your time and let it dry You can speed up drying time by using a hair dryer After 6 thin coats you can mix some of the thickener to the liquid latex You have left in your container You will need to do a total of 15 to 20 coats the more the better as it will help
Step 4 After the latex has dried rub Talcum powder all over the latex this will stop it sticking to its self This will make it easier to get it off your arm When you finely get it your arm out of the mould it will end up in side out This is a good thing as you’ll need to rub a releasing agent all over the inside of mould (I used grease) This will stop the expanding foam sticking to the mould now turn the mould the Wright way round And fill it with water then empty it This will help the foam cure quicker Now fold the arm part of the mould over the hand So you can get the straw from the Can down the fingers Remember to put paper down to protect the work area Now start sparing the expanding foam in to the mould filling each finger when you get to the hand spray some water over the foam you have just sprayed in to the mould Now unfold the arm part of the mould and fill half way and leave for two hours (longer if needed) Now to get your new arm out of this mould it is necessary To cut the latex mould I cut mine down the inside of the arm so you won’t see a line in future moulds
Step 5 Now its time to fold the arm part of the mould over the hand Now you can start spraying the foam in to the mould when you have filled the hand then unfold the arm and fill half way
And leave it to dry for 2 hours before taking your new arm out I found it easier to cut along the inside of the mould to get your new foam arm out
This is what you should have at the end
If your happy with a blotted copy of your arm then go now and paint your arm have fun If you’re more picky then read on As I said you’ll end up with a blotted arm unless you make some think to help keep the shape (I’m one of the picky ones) You may not want to do it the way I did that’s up to you I just have to tell you the way I did it as it was another one of those times when doh is really the only thing you can say I started by making a box (out of scarp MDF) big enough To fit the mould and still have an inch gap all round it I then greased the inside of the box Then I put the mould on my arm then I greased the out side Of the mould I then filled the box half way with expanding foam And then put my arm in to the box and just waited for The foam to cure 1 hour nope 2 hours later nope 3 hours 4 hours 5 hours later most of it has cured so I try to get the box off my arm humm the foam has stuck to the box ok I can fix this where’s my saw muhaha I got the box off the foam all that’s left now is to get the foam of My arm (now I no why people make this kind of mould in two half’s just wish I had remembered before doing it this way As its taken 5 hours to dry I’m not going to waste this mould So I got a kitchen knife and cut around my wrist then up the in & out side of my arm so far so good Now for the hand this was a bit more tricky but I done it in the end What I haven’t mentioned was the I super glued I used to glue hole that was in the thumb Some of the glue had gone inside of the mould so when I put my Hand in The glue stuck my thumb to the mould I didn’t find this out until I tried to get my hand out OUCH And expanding foam gets hot as it cures This is what my hand looked like after all this When I had finished ungluing my thumb I filled the mould as I did before but this time I clamped the outer mould around the inner mould and waited 2 hours when I pulled the moulds apart I was left with a great copy of my arm
